The region is recognized as an extreme dictatorship. Economies in the region tend to be stronger than average. The median tax rate of the region is 43%, but is frequently higher for the wealthy. The economies of nations in the region tend to be heavily weighted towards the public sector, with on average only 38% of the economy comprising the private sector. Commerce is a priority for governments, accounting for an average of 4% of public expenditure.
